The village, as the story goes in Saint-Xandre,
was founded by "ploughmen" even before La Rochelle's foundation.
Those peasant roots are still very present in Saint-Xandre,
which counts the largest number of farms in the conurbation
even though very few of its inhabitants now practice farming.
People choose to live here for the pleasant countryside and
the animation brought by a wealth of community associations.
