An international university |
| Among the fundamental principles of La Rochelle
University is its international outlook, an approach which permeates
throughout its teaching and collaborative research undertakings. |
- Partnership agreements
The University has set up partnership agreements with more than
80 higher education institutions in countries all over the world.
However, the main thrust in international relations is directed
towards Asia-Pacific, a geographic and cultural zone characterised
by a high growth potential.
- Mobility for students in languages
At La Rochelle, courses at LEA level in English-Chinese and English-Indonesian,
as well as the "Asia-Pacific international relations" IUP, teach
students the languages, civilization and business world in that
part of the globe. The study programmes include lengthy internships
abroad, and the CDA supports student mobility by helping to finance
scholarships.
- and in other sectors
Actually, "mobility" is not reserved exclusively for students
in languages, commerce or hotel-tourism. Students in science,
computing and other subjects are also encouraged to study in universities
abroad.
In return, La Rochelle sets up training programmes and takes in
students from the "Asia-Pacific" area. It is the seat of the "House
of the Malayan World" (Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei),
which co-ordinates relations between French universities and those
in the area in question.
- As regards research,
increasing co-operation exists between La Rochelle University's
laboratories and their counterparts abroad, in such fields as
agribusiness, civil engineering, computer imagery or marine biology.
For example, the Indonesian Ministry of the Sea has commissioned
a laboratory in La Rochelle, LBEM, for a study on the ecosystems
in the Sabalana archipelago, with a view to the exploitation of
its halieutic resources.
